Volunteer Opportunities for Families
|
Waters Elementary thrives because of the incredible support from our community. When families give their time, resources, and energy, we're able to provide our students with richer experiences, stronger programs, and a more connected school environment.
We believe everyone should feel welcome and included in this community. Not every family can contribute in the same way, and that’s okay. But if you are in a position to give—whether it’s your time, your talents, or financial support—we encourage you to get involved. It takes help from all of us to create the kind of school where every child feels supported, seen, and celebrated. But before you join us... Make sure to become an approved CPS Volunteer! All field trip chaperones and participants in any school related volunteer activities must be CPS approved. It’s easy! Just complete the CPS volunteer application and bring your I.D. to the school office. In a few days you’ll receive an email from CPS declaring you to be officially approved to volunteer within CPS. Volunteer applications need to be renewed at the start of each school year. |
Become a Room Parent
Many teachers find it helpful to have a room parent, someone the teacher can communicate with directly to coordinate classroom needs, volunteers, special events, and more. If you are interested in this role, please contact Mr. Rutkowski.
Join Friends of Waters
Be a part of the parent-led group that supports our school through fundraising and community engagement. You don’t have to be a board member or attend every meeting to help out. From helping plan our big events to picking up donuts for educators, every bit helps. Reach out to Alison Howlett (President) and Hale Goetz (Vice President) for more info!
Additionally, if you’re interested in joining the Staff Appreciation Committee, reach out to Jacqueline Gaines. This group is responsible for bringing meals to teachers, contributing to the holiday cart, and running teacher appreciation week.
Get Involved with the Local School Council (LSC)
Make a difference in school governance by getting involved with the LSC. Serving on a LSC provides a unique opportunity to become engaged in your school community and play an active role in making decisions affecting Waters, and meetings are open to the public.
Help Maintain School Garden and Grounds
Waters is unique in that parents and community members care for the school's garden and most of the school's grounds. Reach out to Megan Hunter if you'd like to learn more about garden workdays and garden and grounds related volunteer opportunities.
